Sportsbooks Say Young is Frontrunner to Win Heisman
The race to win the Heisman Trophy is underway as three candidates asserts themselves as the leader to win the coveted award. All three players come from programs that have enjoyed stellar seasons. Even though sportsbooks regard USC Trojans as the favorite to win the championship, the Trojans don’t have a single player in contention to win the award. According to all the leading sportsbooks, Vince Young who plays the quarterback position for the second-ranked Texas Longhorns. Young is currently the front runner to win the Heisman at most popular sportsbooks.
PinnacleSports, one of the leading sportsbooks in the business, has already opened betting on the Heisman Trophy three months ago on August 24. The site listed USC quarterback Matt Leinart, who won the award last year, as the overwhelming favorite to also win it this year. The change came last week after Young threw a career-best 4 touchdown passes as his team defeated Kansas. Now the sportsbooks site lists him as the favorite boasting 10/13 odds. This means that you stand to win $10 for every $13 you wager in case he actually wins the award. In the mean time, Leinart became the long shot boasting 4/1 odds.
Simon Noble, spokesperson for the sportsbooks site explains the sudden shift saying, "Having already accounted for 30 total touchdowns and over 3,000 total yards, Young has clearly established himself as the most complete offensive player in the nation. With two USC players in contention for the award, we feel it's likely that Bush and Leinart will split Heisman votes, giving Young an even bigger edge to become the first Texas quarterback to win the award".
