Online Casino Group, Party Gaming, Sets Eyes on Sportsbook
Party Gaming online casino group launched a new backgammon site this week called Party Gammon. The site has also been in the news regarding its GBP 20 million sponsor of the World Series of Poker. However, this news all faded when the online casino group again surprised the industry when it announced that it was planning on seriously expanding into the sports betting market. The online casino group has said that it has budgeted some GBP 500 million to enable their expansion into this sector of the industry.
The funding of this expansion into sports betting is said to be via a series of acquisitions to be funded with the proceeds of a bond issue that could raise the budgeted amount. The online casino hinted that the first purchase will be of a privately-owned and not very well known European operator, and will be only a small part of the fund-raising budget. Negotiations are at advanced stages and further details are expected in the next couple of weeks. More deals are then planned, according to the online casino.
The online casino group has said that it will be limiting its sports betting company acquisitions to the non-US market in order to limit confrontations with the anti-gambling lobby. Other online casino sports betting companies such as Ladbrokes have also taken a similar stand.
